About
Salon Salud grew out of the necessity of two creative hearts needing to play, to explore, to try new things. Anishka Lee-Skorepa and Zoe Kumagai Elias began experimenting with the instrumentation of double bass and voice.
A few rehearsals in, it became apparent that they needed a performance date to direct their efforts. They set a date, time and venue- Anishka’s beautiful living room aka Anishak in Golden Hill. The audience was a key ingredient. Spoken word pieces, karaoke covers and stories emerged from the audience. When the night of the first salon was nearing an end, all those in the room decided upon another date and assured each other that they would do it again.
Over the course of a year, five salons were held. There were no pre-set programs. Bread was broken over carnitas, Japanese curry, red beans and rice. One night was so full, chairs backed into the kitchen and folks sat criss cross in the entry doorway. Another night was small enough that all in attendance could fit around the couch. Each salon began with a toast to creative health, huddled next to one another, with a common language of listening.

Statement of Purpose
Salon Salud is a place for artists to support each other’s creative growth; to embrace our worthiness, to take up space, to show up as we are, to witness each other’s authenticity, to lift each other up, and to dance in the mess of live performance.
